NORTH CANBERRA-GUNGAHLIN ATHLETICS presents 2008 NORTHSIDE SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY & FUN RUN PROGRAM McDermott Place, Lake Ginninderra North Canberra-Gungahlin Athletics club has been conducting the events on the shores of Lake Ginninderra for over 20 years now, and it offers a great opportunity for young athletes to have a bit of fun, maintain their fitness over winter, and compete for points for their school. And it doesn't use up too much of Mum and Dad's valuable time. The 2008 Northside Schools Cross-country season will commence on 3 May, and continue through until 16 August. This year's information sheet, which contains a registration form and a calendar for the season is available here as a pdf file. Race distances vary each week and according to age: U7s: 800m or 1k U9s: 800m, 1k or 1.5k U11s: 1k, 1.5k or 2k U13s: 2k or 3k U15s upwards: 2k, 3k or 4k. Each Saturday an 'early birds' race is held at 8:45am for those athletes who have to rush off to other commitments, then the agegroup races are conducted between 9am and 9:30am. Other features of our competition are: * encouragement awards each run when time improves * $200 and perpetual trophy award to primary school with greatest participation * awards for placegetters, top points scorers and most improved at end of season championships * parents and teachers and fun runners run last event each week * perpetual trophies for winning schools in each age group from under 7 up to under 19 for both boys and girls * weekly results and progressive pointscores are posted on this website. A season registration costs only $15 per athlete or $30 for a family, with a fee of $5 for those wanting to give it a go for the day. So come down to McDermott Place at Lake Ginninderra on Saturday 3 May from 8:30 onwards to register and compete in a fun run at 9am. Registrations are also taken each day during the season.
